It was in 1998 that I won the National Design competition, which got me into planning and designing the Amby Valley City in Mumbai. Since then I have designed several projects in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and other cities, including beautification for varied projects, especially five star hotels, besides industrialists, hoteliers and celeb homes of the builders themselves.
My key works in hotel projects were the Radisson Hotel, Grand Ashok Hotel (Bengaluru), Le Meridien Hotel and Kitty Su Club (New Delhi), Marriott Hotel (Jaipur) and many others. But the one that received rave reviews was the Le Meridien Hotel design in New Delhi for its reconstruction and beautification, which won an award by the Hotel Association of India for the best redesigned hotel in India. I was told to fuse art and technology, so we made mock rooms based on art through technology and designed this 5,600 sq. feet space.
I like to constantly experiment and innovate with New Age designs, construction techniques and novel lighting concepts and use only the latest in high end technology and invest a lot in sourcing new techniques globally. But my design style remains pluralistic, where I get the pulse of the project with local essence, which is like writing a new script everytime.
Be it Asian, Gothic or contemporary, the techniques and technology used will always be new age, but the design will vary everytime. One thing that is common to all my spaces is luxury. You can term it as jewel in the crown design. I design only luxurious, well-detailed spaces. I’m now designing a private jet terminal in the Caribbean islands that looks like a boutique hotel, besides a renaissance hotel in Bhutan, Sri Lanka and China.
