Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event)” is a tweet that will go down in social media history.
Sohaib Athar, aka ReallyVirtual, an IT consultant who tweeted at 1 am on Sunday night, became an overnight celebrity, when the twitterverse realised that he had unwittingly live-tweeted the US military operation that killed the world’s most wanted man.
Since then, Osama has become the top trending topic on Twitter. The Facebook page Osama Bin Laden is dead has got lakhs of “likes” and the terrorist’s hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan has made it to Google Maps.
Tweeple are expressing a wide range of emotions.
“He was a grate man. Had a big impact. A plane speaker. Explosive personality. A multimedia pioneer. Cult following,” tweeted Sidin. Another popular twitter personality, Krishashok mused, “If Obama’s lying about this, he would be Obama, sin laden.” Meanwhile satirical news website Fakingnews stated, “This is worrying. Even Osama Bin Laden is not safe in Pakistan.”
In Bengaluru, brand-consultant Manu Prasad joked, “Was Osama a victim of Apple/Android’s location sharing mess?” and added for good measure, “had anyone promised to strip if Osama got killed? #justaskin”.
Software engineer Tinu Cherian observed, “Not only is Osama trending, but even Kasab has made it to the top 10 in India.” Tinu tweeted, “If Osama had a time machine, he wud hav probably joined Kasab in Mumbai and lived safely in a Indian jail!” As for the terrorist’s hideout, he says, “Even Osama was found in #Pakistan, do they still want to deny where Dawood is?”
While many are still skeptical, Shobhaa De, says it best: “Second term for Obama thanks to Osama! Obama trumps Trump with this coup. World on a high! Champagne sales going through the roof. Terrorism RIP.”
