Bengaluru has a new reason to celebrate! City-based model Tanvi Singla has bagged the Miss Asia Pacific World India 2011 title and will represent the country in the international chapter of the contest in South Korea in October.
It was a case of luck by chance for the pretty damsel. “I had applied, but got through, thanks to a wildcard entry. I got a call saying I had to go to Mumbai just four days before the big event. I didn’t have time to gear up in a special way. All I did was shop,” confesses 19-year-old Tanvi who reveals that she was a tomboy growing up and stepped into the glitzy world of modelling only after she participated in the Scooty Teen Diva contest in 2008.
And how does it feel to be where she is right now? “Surreal. It’s something else to be representing your country abroad. I can already feel the pressure, but my grooming session begins soon, and I know it’ll all be okay,” says Tanvi, who is still coming to terms with her achievement. “My Facebook page is flooded with congratulatory messages, and I have been getting one phone call after another,” says Tanvi, who has her head on her shoulders despite this overwhelming event. She is currently pursuing her undergraduate course in entrepreneurial development in Jain University and has plans of doing a masters in media. “Modelling is a short-lived career after all, and I need something substantial to fall back on,” adds Tanvi, who is open to acting in films, but not hankering after it.
She has been living in Bengaluru for the past couple of years, but she hasn’t forgotten her hometown Mysore. Ask her what she enjoys doing the most and she says, “I visit Srirangapatna, where my mom lives, in the weekends. A river touches my backyard. I love to take my dogs there and watch them swim while I nibble on churmuri.” When she is in Bengaluru, you will find her enjoying anna-sambar at Nandini or Nagarjuna. It’s evident that beneath the glam exterior, is a down-to-earth girl who knows exactly what she wants out of life and isn’t afraid to be herself. We wish her all the best with what’s to come next!
