Sounding bubbly and full of life, just like any 22-year-old would, Angela Jonsson says 2012 is going to be the most exciting year of her life.
February 28 is Angela’s birthday and as she turns a year older, she says, “I think I have grown up a lot in the past year. Since I have been living on my own, I have learnt to make my way around. My mom visits often and I also have a few friends who I can count on in Mumbai.”
With a toned figure to flaunt, once the leggy lass made her mark in modeling, stepping into Bollywood seemed like a natural progression.
Ask her about Sohail Khan’s interests in signing her up for Sher Khan Productions with Salman Khan, Angela concedes, “Yes, my debut film with Salman is in the works, but it’s a tad early to talk too much about it. It will take a little while, before we begin shooting.”
She adds, “Before I moved to Mumbai for the 2011 calendar shoot, I was staying with friends in Bengaluru for over a year, where I did some commercials and learnt new dance styles like jazz, hip-hop, pop, Latin and swing. I was also completing my 12th through a long distance education programme from the US.”
Very in sync with the social networking world, Angela who now lives in her Bandra apartment is in touch with her friends from Bengaluru and Iceland. “With Skype, Facebook, Whatsapp, BBM and gmail, it’s easy. I don’t have too many friends in Bollywood, which gives me a break and helps me look at the bigger picture.”
When questioned on her link-ups with Ranbir Kapoor and Sidhartha Mallya, she is quick to retort, “Do I really have to comment on that? I think it’s quite personal.”
Trying to stray away from the gossip mills, this angelic beauty touted to be the fresh new face to watch out for is now focusing on dancing and acting. Speaking on the preparations on in full swing, she says, “I learnt Bharatnatyam last year and this year I’m learning Kathak from my guru Pandit Vishnu. He has also trained Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra and many others in the industry. Dance is a big part of Bollywood, so it’s very important to pull that off with the right moves and nuances.
"I will also be enrolling in an acting school next month, but for now I have a private tutor coming home to teach me Hindi and acting. I understand Hindi better than I can speak, so am working on it now.”
Born to an Icelandic father and Mangalorean mother, she grew up with seven sisters and three brothers. “We never had a dull moment, but I’m not really a party person and go only if required. Otherwise, I prefer staying at home and watching a film or having a quiet dinner with friends,” adds Angela.
Post two calendar features, many glossy covers and a few ad shoots, Angela says, “I’m catching up on a lot of Hindi films these days, since I wasn’t exposed to many in my growing up days. I love Bollywood music I love Amitabh Bachchan’s acting and Priyanka Chopra’s dance as she can adapt to a lot of different dance styles and is quite versatile. I also enjoy cricket and am looking forward to the next T-20 season.”
Good luck, Angie baby!
