Sooraj Santhosh.

If his debut song in Mollywood, Ee…Ramayanakkoottil from the film Second Show, is any indication, his voice may soon become a familiar one for Malayalis.

Sooraj Santhosh, who has shifted his base from Thiruvananthapuram to Chennai his base in a bid to land good opportunities in the film industries of the south, has been learning music since the age of seven. He is still continuing his music education under Kudamaloor Janardhanan, the flute maestro.

The Second Show song came after he showed his talent in two Telugu movies, Darling and Village lo Vinayakudu, which saw him singing one song each. The song, Inka Edo, in the movie Darling won him the best upcoming singer title in Andhra Pradesh.

Sooraj is a member of an international rock band named Ashram formed by four Austrians. “I have just completed a month-long foreign tour with the band,” Sooraj says.

“I feel proud that I have been able to sing in my mother tongue,” adds the singer who is post graduate in commerce. As a student, he used to bag prizes regularly in the school and college fests. In 2005, he was national level winner in light music in the contest organised by All India Radio, qualifying him to be a B grade artist.

Sooraj says he has many offers coming his way after the Second Show song. “It seems as though I have got the green signal for my journey in the Malayalam movie industry,” he says.
