Joy of the absurd

Joy of the absurd

My work is a journey of exploration, of discovering new things through my lens. My camera usually leads the way and it is my instinct that captures a hidden moment in time. It’s also about the spontaneity of life and its moments. I don’t go to any place with any preconceived notion of what I will shoot — I let my instincts lead me to what the place has to offer. Since I shoot on instinct, how I am feeling affects what I shoot. I often go back to the same places and shoot very different things.

I prefer still life and abstracts. I am obsessed with colour. It is the pinwheel of joy and life that swirls with many hues all around me. I am instantly drawn to bright and bold colours that refuse to fade, even with the ravages of time. Texture also fascinates me and my work is largely reflective of that. Through my work, I try to communicate with the beauty of life — the small, hidden things in everyday life that we overlook in our hurry to be somewhere.

I look for the unusual in the usual. I look for things that most people wouldn’t glance at again and bring them to life, like yesterday’s stars in a brand new role. I also shoot other genres like ‘street’ and ‘people’. I find it interesting to see people in their natural surroundings going about their day. While travelling, by car, train or even just walking, compositions flash before me all the time. I try and carry my camera wherever I go, so as not to miss the moment.
