National aquatic championships: Karnataka retain overall title; Railways, Maha champs

Railways bagged the men's team championship with 175 points while in the women's division, Maharashtra emerged on top with 148 points

Bengaluru: Karnataka extended their grip on the overall championship retaining their title at the 70th Glenmark senior national aquatic championships with 246 points which concluded in Ranchi on Wednesday.

Railways bagged the men’s team championship with 175 points while in the women’s division, Maharashtra emerged on top with 148 points. Meanwhile, the individual title for best swimmers went to Madhu PS of Services and Gujarat’s Maana Patel. The former had two gold, one silver and two new records to his name during the meet while the latter had three gold, one bronze and one record.

On the fifth and final day of the event, the lone national record went to Madhu who touched the pad at 26.73 seconds to rewrite his own two-year-old time of 27.02 seconds in the 50m backstroke event.

For Karnataka, Preksha HM (9:42.12s, 800m FS), Saloni Dalal (1:16.54s, 100m BR), Likith SP (1:04.15s, 100m BR) and Arvind Mani (27.30s, 50M BS claimed the silver medal while Harshitha Jayaram (1.17.61s, 100M BR) claimed a bronze.
Karnataka also finished second in the 4x50m mixed freestyle event with a time of 1:44.20s.
