Hockey Championship: Visakhapatnam beat Krishna districts by 4-0

Hosts Vizag had hammered their opponents Krishna by winning the inaugural match.

Visakhapatnam: Hosts Vizag had hammered their opponents Krishna by winning the inaugural match of the Seventh edition of Andhra Pradesh inter-district senior men’s hockey championship with a superb 4-0 victory at Port Stadium here in Vizag on Saturday. The hosts scored two beautifully-crafted field goals in the first half through P. Ramesh (10 minutes) and M. Raju (24th minute). In the second-half of the match, Krishna Kishore and Narendra had netted each one goal and picked up a 4-0 win and entered into further round. Kadapa hockey team has stolen the show on the inaugural day as they registered a thumping victory over Prakasam by 22-0.

Kadapa’s star striker Uday Deepu scored 10 goals. In another match between Anantapur and Srikakulam at the stadium, Anantapur has beaten Srikakulam by 13-0. Earlier, Dr S.V. Adinarayana, director of Prema Hospital, inaugurated the championship and Dr S.K.E. Appa Rao, executive president of Hockey Visakhapatnam has presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion, M. Niranjan Reddy, secretary of Hockey Andhra Pradesh, said that Vizag has tremendous resources for conducting several tournaments.

So, many tournaments have been conducted in Vizag city and he appreciated all the organisers for organising the championship in a successful manner. He appreciated all the sponsors, who have come forward to encourage and develop the game of hockey in the country.
