100 metres hurdles: Gold for Jyothi, Nithya is third

Dhirendra Kumar of Gujarat shattered the national and meet records to bag the gold in the boys pole vault category.

Hyderabad: Telangana’s Y. Jyothi won the girls’ 100 metres hurdles by a hair’s breadth at the 13th National Youth Athletics championship being held at the University of Calicut stadium in Kozhikode, Kerala, on Friday.

Jyothi clocked 14.68 seconds to pip Sapna Kumari of Jharkhand by one hundreth of a second (14.69) to emerge victor. Anjali Thomas of Kerala came third with a time of 15.39 seconds.

On Thursday, G. Nithya of Telangana had won the bronze in the 100 metres sprint by clocking 12.63 seconds at the meet. Both Jyothi and Nithya train under Nagapuri Ramesh (who also coaches Dutee Chand) at the Sports Authority of India Sports Training Centre in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.

Dhirendra Kumar of Gujarat shattered the national and meet records to bag the gold in the boys pole vault category. Kumar vaulted a height of 4.72m, bettering the national record of 4.70m.
