Indian Grand Prix athletics: Gold for Dutee Chand, Chinta Sudhakar third

Chintha Sudhakar was the only Telangana athlete to bag a medal at the Indian Grand Prix athletics.

Hyderabad: Chintha Sudhakar was the only Telangana athlete to bag a medal at the Indian Grand Prix athletics held at National Institute of Sports in Patiala on Tuesday. Sudhakar won a bronze in the men’s 100 metres sprint with a timing of 10.71 seconds, behind S. Vidyasagar of Karnataka (10.65) and Kerala’s Anuroop John (10.70) who took gold and silver res pectively.

Odisha’s Dutee Chand, who trains in Hyderabad under coach Nagapuri Ramesh, opened the season with a gold in the women’s 100 metres. She clocked 11.57 seconds to leave Hima Das of Assam and Prajna Prakash of Karnataka behind.

The Results:

Men’s 100 metres: 1. S. Vidyasagar (Karnataka) 10.65 seconds, 2. Anuroop John (Kerala) 10.70, 3. Chintha Sudhakar (Telangana) 10.71.

Women’s 100 metres: 1. Dutee Chand (Odisha) 11.57 seconds, 2. Hima Das (Assam) 11.74, 3. Prajna Prakash (Karnataka) 11.76.

Women’s long jump: 1. Nayana James (Kerala) 6.47 metres, 2. Neena Pinto (Kerala) 6.41m, 3. Purnima Hembram (Odisha) 5.99m.
