Pune: After tracking the pace-setting Volcan early, the Pesi Shroff-trained Mathaiyus, with Y.S. Srinath astride, took over the running approaching the 1800 metres mark, and the long lead established by Srinath passing the mid-way stretch held him in good stead to win the Indian St. Leger quite convincingly from hard ridden Winter Renaissance, in the highlight of the races held on Sunday.
