Harrison Newey sets pace at free practice

Harrison Newey was the fastest driver in both Free Practice sessions here on Thursday.

Dubai: Harrison Newey was the fastest driver in both Free Practice sessions here on Thursday to set the tune for the next two days of the MRF Challenge at Dubai Autodrome. The young driver from Great Britain who started from pole and won the first race comfortably in Bahrain pipped Felipe Drugovich and Juri Vips in Practice 1 and in Practice 2, he was ahead of Drugovich and Joey Mawson.

Newey set a blistering pace going half a second faster than his nearest rival in both sessions. His lap time is three seconds faster than the times in practice last year showing a vastly improved MRF F2000. He outpaced initial leader Joey Mawson in both the practice sessions.

Estonian racing driver Ralf Aron, who was trailing overall MRF Challenge leader Mick Schumacher (75) by just three points after the round one, has not turned up here due to his F3 engagements. With Aron absent, Newey (53) will be looking to catch up with the third placed Mawson (61 points).
