Visakhapatnam: The city is all set for the first ever night marathon, Vizag Steel Bay Marathon 2016, to be held on Saturday at RK Beach.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the marathon which includes Half marathon, 10K, 5K and 3K.
To entertain and ensure energetic atmosphere, cultural programmes like Dhimsa dance of Araku, Kommu dance, Teenmaar, flashmobs with props, Tappetagullu, Puliveshalu, Koya dance, Katthi saamu, Punjabi dhol, Sannai, Saamu gaaradi, Kolatam, Garaga, dappu and rock bands will be performed at 24 spots, along the course from Kalimatha temple to Gitam.
Many stretches of the road have been decked up with colourful lights giving a festive look to the Beach Road.
More than 7,000 people are expected to participate and participants registetred for half marathon and 10K will be provided with a running time technology chip, while the 3k and 5k run will be fun event for people of all age groups to enjoy the marathon.
Even runners from Ethiopia are taking part in the marathon giving a tough competition to the participants.
“We last participated in the Amaravati marathon. We are participating in most of the marathons being conducted in India. The certificates help us a lot for our career,” said a runner from Ethiopia.
As part of community engagement and corporate social responsibility initiatives, Information Technology Association of Andhra Pradesh (iTAAP), in partnership with the ITE&C department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, has extended support to the Vizag Bay Marathon.
More than 40 IT & ITeS (BPM) companies from Vizag would be participating in the marathon. Mountaineer Neelima to encourage participants in the marathon.
