Kenya footballer's contract was terminated at gunpoint, complaint filed with FIFA

Clifton Miheso was held at gunpoint by two armed men, who asked him to sign a termination to his contract with Golden Arrows FC.

Durban: Kenyan football player Clifton Miheso has filed a complaint with FIFA after he was allegedly made to terminate his contract with South African football club Golden Arrows, while being held at gunpoint.

The incident, which allegedly took place on January 14, has been brought to the attention of FIFA’s world player’s union FIFPro.

According to FIFPro’s official website, two armed men arrived at the club’s office at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, where Miheso was meeting Golden Arrows’ chief executive.

The armed men then held the 24-year-old at gunpoint, and reportedly forced him to terminate his contract.

While the club’s spokeswoman persuaded Miheso to drop the police complaint, the football player has filed a complaint with FIFA’s player’s union.

Miheso’s lawyer is now pleading FIFA to impose a transfer ban on the Golden Arrows, along with USD 20,000 of unpaid wages.

“His lawyer is seeking a transfer ban or any other sanction FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber sees fit for Golden Arrows and about $22,000 in unpaid wages,” said FIFPro on their official website.

“The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU), a member of FIFPro, has asked for the South African Football Association to launch its own inquiry into what happened.”
