U-17 coach Nicolai Adam and AIFF part ways

The AIFF has confirmed Head Coach of the India U-17 team Nicolai Adam has agreed to vacate his post by mutual consent.

Mumbai: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has confirmed that U-17 Head Coach Nicolai Adam has left his role by mutual consent.

It was a question of when and not if this would happen after Adam was accused of physically abusing his players. All the members of the India U-17 squad signed a document confirming Adam's actions forcing the AIFF to step in.

However, it is a big blow to the country's preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup which it will play host to, in October this year.

AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das said, “We are grateful to Nicolai for his services towards development of the Indian U-17 national team and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.”

“The process of selecting a new coach for the U-17 national team has already been initiated. We shall appoint a replacement very soon and also hope to get the desired results,” he added.

Adam, who had taken charge of the team in April 2015, said: “I am grateful to AIFF for giving me the opportunity to serve as coach of the Indian U-17 national team. I wish all the bright young talent the very best.”
