After KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay likely to miss IPL 2017

India's premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will miss the 10th Indian Premier League due to recurrence of sports hernia.

Mumbai: Indian regulars Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay are likely to miss the entire IPL 2017. The news comes after it was revealed that Indian opener KL Rahul will also miss 10th edition of the T20 league due to a shoulder injury.

Vijay, who has been replaced by Glenn Maxwell as Kings XI Punjab captain, is likely to miss the tournament due to the shoulder injury that forced him to sit out of the Bengaluru Test against Australia.

India’s premier bowler Ashwin, who was the architect behind India’s successful home season with 81 wickets where Team India won 10 out of 13 Tests, would sit out of the tournament due to recurrence of sports hernia. The Rising Pune Supergiants player also underwent scans in Mumbai after the final Test against Australia.

While Vijay is not a part of India’s ODI side, Ashwin is expected to travel with the team to England for the ICC Champions Trophy in June.

Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Umesh Yadav and Gujarat Lions' biggest draw Ravindra Jadeja also need rest after an exacting home season. Umesh, Rohit and Jadeja are automatic selections in India's Champions Trophy squad.

However, both Jadeja and Umesh will play the bulk of the matches but may be given some time to freshen up, when their respective franchises play the first few games.

India skipper Virat Kohli, who sustained a shoulder injury during the Third Test against Australia, is also likely to miss first few games for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
