Rashid Khan: Afghanistan to SRH, wilderness to Rs 9 crore in IPL 2018 Player Auction

Rashid, who had base price of 2 crore, was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad by using Right To Match card.

Bengaluru: Afghanistan young spinner Rashid Khan was brought back by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 9 crores in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction 2018 in Bengaluru on Saturday.

Rashid, who had a base price of 2 crore, saw three-way bidding war between Kings XI Punjab,Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils. The Punjab side had beaten the other two franchisee to win his signature, but Hyderabad used their Right to match card to buy their star bowler.

Rashid Khan had a successful maiden season in the Indian Premier League last year. The Hyderabad franchisee brought the Afghan sensation for just 4 crore in the auction.

The leg-spinner from war-torn Afghanistan labelled as Indian Premier League’s million dollar baby last year, become favourite bowler in T20 leagues around the world.

In the ongoing Big Bash League, Rashid is creating magic while playing for Adelaide Strikers. The 19-year-old spinner has picked up 17 wickets in 10 matches at an economy of 5.52 runs.

Not only has he been sensational with the ball, he has shown that he is no mug with the bat either.

A very economical bowler, he has certainly deceived batsman around the world with his leg-break. His googly has been his biggest strength which he has used it to good effect to surprise the batsman. Rashid will once again look to dish out fantastic performance for the Hyderabad like he did last season.
