MS Dhoni becomes India's second-most capped cricketer, surpasses Rahul Dravid

When India played arch-rivals Pakistan in their Asia Cup Super Four match on Sunday, it was Dhoni's 505th match for the Men in Blue.

Dubai: Veteran Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni recently became the second-most capped player from the country to play international matches.

When India played arch-rivals Pakistan in their Asia Cup Super Four match on Sunday, it was Dhoni’s 505th match for the Men in Blue.

Only Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is ahead of the Jharkhand batsman, with 664 international caps for the country.

Dhoni, though, went past former captain Rahul Dravid, who played 504 international games for India.

Only Mohammad Azharuddin (433 matches) and Sourav Ganguly (421 matches) have played fewer matches than Dravid.

India’s current captain Virat Kohli has represented the country in 344 matches.

Dhoni, meanwhile, has played 90 Tests, 322 ODIs and 93 T20Is. The 37-year-old retired from Tests in 2014, but continues playing limited-overs matches for India.

Dhoni, who is currently taking part in India’s Asia Cup campaign, is just 95 runs short of reaching the 10,000 run mark in ODIs.

India, who are already in the Asia Cup final, will face Afghanistan in their final Super Four game on Tuesday.
