U-16 Vijay Merchant trophy: Hyderabad lads falter in semis

Hyderabad tried eight bowlers in the second innings but could not get a wicket.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad bowlers were helpless in defending a modest lead as the team were defeated by Uttar Pradesh in the semifinals of the U-16 Vijay Merchant trophy match that was played at Indore.

Resuming at their overnight total of 242/3, Hyderabad were all out for 322 as Vishal Thakur ran through the line-up taking 5 wickets at the cost of 57 runs.

Tilak Varma’s ton, a half-century by Owais Abdul Wahed and a 30-run contribution from Gaurav Reddy were not of much help as the lead measured up to a mere 152.

In reply, Uttar Pradesh chased down the target with ease as openers Prabhnoor Singh and Rishiket Sisodia finished the task without being separated. Prabhnoor stroked 10 boundaries in his 77 that came off 120 balls while Rishiket hit 75 in 115 balls, 12 of which he despatched authoritatively to the boundary. Hyderabad tried eight bowlers in the second innings but could not get a wicket.
