In pics: Lt Colonel MS Dhoni pays surprise visit to Army Public School in Srinagar

The Jharkhand cricketer was conferred with the title of Lieutenant Colonel by the Indian Army back in 2011.

Srinagar: Team India cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni made a surprise visit to Army Public School here on Wednesday. Dhoni, who holds a honorary rank of Lt. Colonel in the Indian Army, interacted with students of the school, where he spoke on the importance of studies and sports.

The Jharkhand cricketer was conferred with the title of Lieutenant Colonel by the Indian Army back in 2011, after he led the Men in Blue to Cricket World Cup triumph, beating Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Due to below par performances, the 36-year-old wicketkeeper batsman has been heavily criticised by some of the former cricketers, including Ajit Agarkar, VVS Laxman and others.

However, India skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri has given the former skipper full backing.

Dhoni, was in fact a part of India’s side which defeated New Zealand 2-1 in both the ODI and T20I series. Dhoni, who retired from Tests in 2014, is taking a break from cricket, as Virat Kohli and co are currently playing against Sri Lanka in the longest format.

The veteran cricketer will be back in action when the Men in Blue take on the Lankans in a three-match ODI series, starting on December 10. The series will be followed by as many T20s against the same opponents.
