New Delhi: On a day when bowlers called the shots, the in-form Karnataka, owed a lot to stumper CM Gautam, whose half-ton bailed them out of trouble while giving them respectability against Odisha on Day One at the Palam A ground, Model Sports Complex on Monday.
Sent in by Odisha skipper Govinda Poddar with the conditions helping the seamers, Karnataka were in deep trouble at 95/6 before Gautam (54, 84b, 8x4) and R Vinay Kumar (16) added 26 for the seventh before K Gowtham (21, 22b) helped in adding another 28 for the eighth before Karnataka were bowled out for 179 in 66.2 overs. Basant Mohanty picked up 3-46 while Biplab Samantray scalped 2-20.
In reply, Karnataka struck back expectedly with S Arvind removing opener Sandeep Pattnaik for 18 before the Ranjit Singh was run out to leave Odisha at 42/2 in 18 overs.
