Ind vs Eng, 2nd Test Day 5: India thump England by 246 runs to win Vizag Test

R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav share the spoils, India lead 5-match series 1-0.

Visakhapatnam: Indian spinners came to the party as the hometeam thumped England by 246 runs in the second Test on day five in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

The win also helped India to lead the five-match Test series 1-0.

R Ashwin and Jayant Yadav, who was playing his first Test, scalped three wickets each while Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami picked two wickets each as England were bundled out for 158 runs.

England 158 all out from 97.3 overs:

WICKETS! Jayant Yadav has wrapped up England innings and sealed India's 247 run win in Vizag. The debutant first trapped Stuart Broad before the wickets and on the next delivery caught James Anderson plumb in front of the stumps. Superb performance from him in his first Test.

England 148/8 from 96 overs:

WICKET! Ashwin has wasted no time to strike in the post lunch session. Zafar Ansari could not defend the delivery as the ball crashes onto the stumps.

England 142/7 from 93 overs:

LUNCH! India are well on their way towards taking a 1-0 lead in the five match series, picking up five England wickets in the first session of play, in Vizag, on Day 5. While Ashwin shone with the ball towards the end of Day 4, dismissing England openers Hameed and Cook, Jadeja and Shami shone with the ball on Monday, picking up two wickets each. Debutant Jayant Yadav also picked up a wicket to leave England struggling.

England 129/7 from 91 overs:

WICKET! Mohammed Shami has sent Adil Rashid packing. The England leg-spinner edges one to the wicketkeeper and Saha gleefully accepts it.

England 115/6 from 87 overs:

WICKETS! Jayant Yadav and Mohammed Shami have struck in successive overs to dismiss Ben Stokes and Joe Root. Two big wickets. Yadav bowled a beauty of a delivery to catch Stokes on the backfoot and beat his defence to disturb the timber. Shami, then, removed Root as he trapped him before the wickets.

England 101/4 from 74 overs:

WICKET! Jadeja strikes. The extra bounce has done Moeen Ali in. Jadeja kept bowling in the rough area outside the off-stump. He threw one wider as Moeen Ali could not deal with the extra bounce. Ball loops up to the leg-slip and Kohli, this time around, makes no mistake.

England 92/3 from 65 overs:

WICKET! Ben Duckett's troubles against R Ashwin continue. The England batsman tried to get out of the jail by going for big sweep. The extra bounce on the ball did him in as it ballooned up in the air after hitting the glove and then the thigh pad. Saha made no mistake while taking that catch.

Visakhapatnam: While England openers were defiant after India set the visitors 405-run target on Sunday, the Virat Kohli-led side will press hard for victory as they aim to wrap up the England innings and win the second Test in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

The Alastair Cook-led unit has 8 wickets in hands to secure a draw in the Vizag Test. However, that won’t be an easy task on the fifth day pitch. The wicket at India’s newest Test venue was offering variable bounce and dismissals of England openers – Haseeb Hameed and Cook – are testimony to the same.

Although India had to toil for wickets on day four, it won’t be surprising if India run through the England batting line-up and take 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series.
