Sourav Ganguly defends under-pressure MS Dhoni, here's what he said

Dhoni has been heavily criticised after his slow-paced innings in India's second and third ODIs against England.

Mumbai: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly came to the defence of under-pressure MS Dhoni, saying that the veteran cricketer should not be booed at.

Dhoni has been heavily criticised after his slow-paced innings in India’s second and third ODIs against England.

While Dhoni scored 37 runs off 59 balls at Lord’s, he managed to score only 42 runs from 66 balls in the latest match at Leeds.

"The people shouldn't boo Dhoni. He's one of the greats. I don't think we will ever find a player like him in the times to come. He got stuck out there, couldn't rotate the strike. He should start hitting because that's his natural game,” the 46-year-old was quoted saying by India TV.

One starts questioning his abilities, as to whether he can perform in the same fashion like he did before. In 2005, he used to hit bowlers in any conditions. In Pakistan, he went and hit sixes all around. The team management should sit and talk to him, give him the No.6 spot and tell him to get back to his natural game," the former captain added.

Despite opening with an eight-wicket win, India went onto lose the ODI series 2-1 as England made a remarkable comeback in the second and third matches. Virat Kohli’s men had clinched the T20I series 2-1.

With the limited-overs leg completed, the teams now switch focus to the five-match Test series from August 1.

Dhoni, who has played 90 Tests for India, retired from the format back in 2014.
