Nidahas Trophy: Rohit Sharma did not watch Dinesh Karthik's last-ball six; here's why

Dinesh Karthik scored unbeaten 29 off 8 balls and hit a last-ball six to power India to Nidahas Trophy triumph.

Colombo: Dinesh Karthik pulled off an absolute heist as India beat Bangladesh in the last-ball thriller on Sunday to win the 2018 Nidahas Trophy. DK, as he is fondly called, faced the first ball in the 19th over as India needed 34 off the last 12 balls after Bangladesh squeezed the flow of runs to push India on the backfoot.

Karthik scored unbeaten 29 off 8 balls to script a remarkable win at the R Premadasa Stadium.

While the Indian cricket team and their fans – at the stadium and all over the world- had a nervous time, Karthik kept his nerve to power India to a stunning win on the last ball. However, skipper Rohit Sharma missed out watching DK’s last-ball six.

Asked what was the mood like in the dressing and what was going through his mind before the final ball, Rohit revealed he did not watch the last ball.

“I had gone to wear pads for the Super Over. I thought there’s a possibility of a Super Over. I was wearing my pads as there were chances of a Super Over if there was a four (hit on the last ball). Hence, I did not watch the last ball,” said Rohit during the post-match press conference.

“But the way we celebrated in the dressing room, I knew Dinesh had hit a six and we had won the final. I didn’t watch the last ball,” concluded Rohit.

The diminutive wicketkeeper-batsman first scored 22 in the penultimate over bowled by Rubel Hossain. With India needing 12 off the last over and five off the last ball to win the match and four for a tie, Karthik kept his cool and showed why his experience mattered as he hit a six over the extra-cover to seal India's stunning win.
