Ashish Nehra hopes of playing in Champions Trophy in England

Ashish Nehra has said that he would like to represent the country again in ODIs and is targeting the Champions Trophy.

New Delhi: India's Twenty20 left-arm fast bowler Ashish Nehra has said that he would like to represent the country again in one-day internationals and is targeting the Champions Trophy to be played in England in June this year.

Nehra, who last played ODIs for India in 2011, was quoted by ESPN, as saying that the logic for him thinking that he had a chance to represent India in the Champions Trophy was the encouragement cricket pitches and atmosphere in England give to fast bowlers. He maintained that any side touring England usually opts for four fast bowlers and a couple of spinners to get the maximum benefit from the conditions.

Nehra's last competitive ODI was a practice game against England in December 2015.

He said that now he is in the process of planning a comeback into the Indian ODI squad by playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the country's premier one-day tournament.

Nehra, according to ESPN, will complete 18 years in international cricket at the end of February, and he has to compete with several youngsters such as Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya for a spot in the national ODI squad.
