Australia's Josh Dunstan smashes 40 sixes in local match, breaks Viv Richards' record

Melbourne: Josh Dunstan, a cricketer from Australia, had an innings to remember, when smashed 40 sixes during his knock of 307 for West Augusta B grade in a 35-over match Central Stirling.

His knock of 307 helped his team reach a total of 354, with the rest of the team failing to step up.

It was 33 years back, in 1984 at Old Trafford against England when West Indies’ legend Sir Vivian Richards smashed 189 runs, leading the visitors to 272-9 from 55 overs.

While the West Indian great had scored 69.48 per cent of his team's runs in that innings, Dunstan sailed past Sir Viv's record by scoring 86.72 per cent of his team's total score.

That was a match-winning effort by the then 32-year-old Richards as his team bowled out the hosts for 168, thereby completing a 104-run win.

Way before Richards’ knock of 189, it was Australia’s Charles Bannerman who had set the record of most percentage of runs in the first ever cricket Test match against England, back in 1877.

On their road to a total of 245, Bannerman played a knock of 165, as the rest of the team failed to score much runs.

Dunstan also spoke about the innings. “I think I owe Bannerman a carton. I’m still in a little bit of shock that I got to 300 to be honest. The phone’s been going off non-stop today,” he was quoted saying to Foxsports.com.au.
