Vijay Merchant Trophy: Vasu picks seven as Andhra Pradesh win big

Vasu ended the match with fine figures of 27-8-59-5 (first innings) and 22.4-8-71-7 (second innings) respectively.

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh’s Y. Vasu emerged the star of the show by picking 12 wickets in the match to hand Kerala an innings and a 80-run defeat in their third round match of the Vijay Merchant Trophy Under 16 cricket league at the NFC Grounds.

Resuming the second innings at their overnight score of 71 for 5, Kerala batters felt helpless against a fine bowling show by Vasu who dismissed seven batsman to bowl out opponents for 135. Vasu ended the match with fine figures of 27-8-59-5 (first innings) and 22.4-8-71-7 (second innings) respectively. Andhra clinched seven points while Kerala returned blank.

At ECIL Grounds, after bowling out Karnataka for 357, Hyderabad were 180/5 in their second innings by the end of final day’s play. Y. S. Varun scored a 69-ball 57 for the home side. Hyderabad managed to secure one point while Karnataka pocketed three by the virtue of their first innings lead.

Meanwhile, B. Sai Sudharshan (102) and Mohan Kumar (110) hit centuries before Tamil Nadu declared their first innings at 353 for 7 and later reduced Goa to 117 for 4 when the stumps were drawn for the final day’s play. Tamil Nadu took three points while Goa had one.
