Ignored by selectors, Kuldeep Yadav once contemplated suicide

Kuldeep recently became the 1st Indian spinner and 3rd Indian cricketer to take a hat-trick in ODIs.

Mumbai: Kuldeep Yadav, who is India’s first ever chinaman bowler, has not done too many things wrong since he made his Test debut against Australia in Dharamsala earlier this year. The 22-year-old bowler has also been impressive during his short limited-overs cricket thus far.

However, Kuldeep, who recently became the first Indian spinner to take a hat-trick in ODIs as Virat Kohli-led Team India beat Australia at the Eden Gardens, once thought of ending his life.

Kuldeep, who was not picked in Uttar Pradesh’s Under-15 side when he was 13, contemplated to commit suicide.

“I had worked hard for my selection, but when I was not picked, I mentioned suicide in frustration. It happens to everyone in the heat of the moment,” Kuldeep was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“I was a meritorious student in school and wanted to play cricket just for fun. I never thought of making it my vocation. In fact, my father wanted me to play cricket and took me to the coach,” added Kuldeep.
