BCCI makes decision on Virat Kohli's demand for WAGs on overseas tour; find out more

India are scheduled to tour Australia for a full-fledged series in November.

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to follow Cricket Australia’s policy in terms of allowing Wives and Girlfriends (WAGs) to accompany their husbands during an overseas tour, according to a report in Mumbai Mirror.

This comes days after India cricket captain Virat Kohli had requested for the WAGs’ stay to be extended in foreign tours.

The Cricket Australia (CA) usually coordinates with the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) where they decide on family period. A family period is simply a time when families of cricketers can visit them during a fixed time.

“These phases vary from tour to tour, depending on the length of the series. Currently, the Australian players are in the UAE for a two-Test series and the family period covers both Tests. But it is not the case for every tour. They vary tour by tour,” a CA spokesperson told Mumbai Mirror.

During the 2015 Cricket World Cup, WAGs were not allowed till the semifinal, and the BCCI will not make any tweaks to that rule in next year’s 10-nation tournament.
