Kohli just 57 runs away from new record

Scoring another 57 runs in the against New Zealand would also make him the only player to complete 11,000 runs in under 11 years.

Mumbai: Ahead of the India versus New Zealand clash, skipper Virat Kohli is just 57 runs away from breaking a new record. The feat will make Kohli the fastest cricketer to reach 11,000 runs in ODI matches.

Virat Kohli currently stands at 10,943 runs in 221 innings for the national team. Scoring another 57 runs in the match against New Zealand on Thursday would also make him the only player to complete 11,000 runs in under 11 years.

Also, Kohli will be only the ninth cricketer to score 11,000 runs in ODI matches, and the third Indian cricketer to do so. The other two Indian cricketers to achieve the feat are Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

Additionally, Kohli is one century away from equalling Virender Sehwag and Ricky Ponting as the players to score the most centuries against New Zealand, which is six centuries.

However, the rain currently laying waste to match after match at the World Cup may destroy Virat’s chances of accomplishing these milestones.
