India vs Pakistan fun to watch than England vs Australia's the Ashes: Wasim Akram

Since 2008, in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks, India have refused to play any bilateral series against Pakistan.

Lahore: Former Pakistani skipper and bowling legend Wasim Akram said that India versus Pakistan ties are more interesting than the England vs Australia's Ashes. Akram, though, also made it clear that the International Cricket Council (ICC) can’t do much about resuming India-Pakistan bilateral cricketing ties.

While the arch-rivals have played against each other in the International Cricket Council (ICC) events – the recent being ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England – the sides have not been involved in a bilateral series due to political tensions.

Since 2008, in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks, India have refused to play any bilateral series against Pakistan.

ICC CEO David Richardson, during his visit to Pakistan in September this year, has in fact stated that ICC can’t force Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to resume bilateral ties with India.

“I don’t think ICC has the power to pursue BCCI, but again I have always said people to people contact is necessary. Politics and sport should be separate,” Akram said during an interview to Geo TV.

“A Pakistan India match is more fun to watch than the Ashes. 20 million people watch the Ashes while a Pakistan India match is watched by a billion people,” concluded Akram.
