Hyderabad: Former Hyderabad Ranji Trophy cricketer and coach Vijay Mohan Raj is the latest former cricketer to apply for the India head coach’s job.
In a letter to the BCCI president, Tony, as Vijay is fondly called in cricket circles, said: “My love for the game of cricket and my experience as a Ranji Trophy cricketer for Bombay and Hyderabad spanning a period between 1975-88 makes me a suitable coach for the Indian team.”
A certified Level ‘C’ coach from the National Cricket Academy of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Tony listed out his credentials for the job.
“My experience as a First Class player, coach at all levels of the game, faculty at the NCA to conduct Level ‘A’ programs, and coach at the Hyderabad Cricket Academy of Excellence has provided me with the expertise in the facets of sports psychology, sports medicine and management of work load of players,” he wrote.
“I am at present coaching at Hyderabad Cricket Academy of Excellence and using all the latest hardware and software available to analyse the players' performance thereby providing the consultancy to address technical issues,” he wrote.
“On being shortlisted I shall make a presentation on my approach towards the cause of making India a champion team,” he said.
