Hyderabad: It was the day of the left-handed opening batsmen and captains as Faiz Fazal and Ishan Kishan struck a century each to lead Vidarbha and Jharkhand to thumping victories in their Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day Group ‘D’ third round matches here on Thursday.
While Vidarbha vanquished Hyderabad by 237 runs, Jharkhand jolted Services with a five-wicket win.
Faiz slammed four boundaries and three sixes in his 97-ball 103 that propelled Vidarbha to an imposing 350 for 7 in 50 overs. Ravi Jangid (81) and Apoorv Wankhade (66) were the other main contributors to the total.
In reply, Hyderabad were a pale shadow of the team that won their previous two matches emphatically and were all out for a paltry 113 to be humiliated at their headquarters, the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. A. T. Rayudu, who returned from serving a two-match suspension to take over the captaincy, scored 21. Kolla Sumanth was the highest scorer with 29.
The other captain, Ishan Kishan, was all fire as he smashed 13 fours and four sixes in his 106 that came off just 75 balls as Jharkhand chased down the Services total of 202 in just 30.5 overs with five wickets in hand. Saurabh Tiwary played second fiddle with an unbeaten 56 that came off 67 balls and included six boundaries and a six.
