Virat Kohli beats MS Dhoni to top list of Yahoo's most searched sportsperson in 2017

The Team India skipper is the fifth most searched Indian on the list, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mumbai: After leading Team India to top of ICC test rankings, skipper Virat Kohli has topped the list of Yahoo’s most searched sportsperson in the year 2017. He is followed by MS Dhoni, P V Sindhu, Gautam Gambhir, Ravi Shastri, Mithali Raj Harmanpreet Kaur, S Sreesanth, Robin Uthappa and Irfan Pathan . Virat is the fifth most searched Indian on the list, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Team India skipper has had tremendous 2017 season which saw him break records with ease. Kohli led his team to 1-0 victory in the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home recently.

The feat saw him winning nine consecutive series and also equalling former Australia captain Ricky Ponting's record of the most successive series win as captain. After scoring career-best 243 in the third Test against Sri Lanka, Kohli on Thursday jumped three places to grab the second position among batsmen in the ICC Test rankings.

Virat scored a tally of 2818 runs across all format, to be placed third on the list of most runs by a batsman in a calendar year across all formats.

Kumar Sangakkara recently took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Kohli’s feat. He tweeted “I don’t think that will last long the way @imVkohli is batting. He will probably overtake it next year and then do it again the year after. He is a different class.”

Kohli has currently taken a break from ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka citing personal reasons. Team India’s next assignment is away series against South Africa, where they will play 3 test, 6 ODIs and 3 T20, The first test will be commencing from January 5th at Newlands, Cape Town.
