Destruction time soon for BCCI: Rahul Mehra

Mehra was referring to the advice given by the former apex-court judge Markandey Katju to the BCCI to oppose the Lodha Panel recommendations.

Mumbai: The available option with the Lodha Panel is now to approach the supreme court and file a non-co-operation petition against the Indian cricket board, according to Rahul Mehra, the noted sports lawyer who has been following the proceedings against the BCCI.

Mehra was referring to the advice given by the former apex-court judge Markandey Katju to the BCCI to oppose the Lodha Panel recommendations and to not meet the panel early next week.

“I would say whatever if left in the Indian cricket board would now be finished. It is Vinash Kale Vipreet Buddhi, a famous Sanskrit proverb, which means, when one’s destruction time is soon to arrive, one thinks advesely or negatively.

“The supreme court may initiate the Contempt of Law proceedings against the Indian board. May God bless Markandey Katju! He considers himself bigger than the sitting chief justice of India,” Mehra said.

Interestingly, though Katju has advised to file a review appeal, it will be heard by a new panel where the chief justice Thakur will be present. “Since Ibrahim Kalifulla has retired, the other colleague-member of the bench will be decided by Tirth Singh Thakur,” a former judge said.

“Even when the curative appeal is filed in the SC for the larger bench to hear the proceedings, Thakur has to be in the new panel until he is retired (in January 2017),” added the ex-judge.
