Inter-school league matches: Farees, Nikhil, Abhinav, Aziz, Meg shine

Farees, whose bowling figures read 7.4-0-37-7, helped his side bowl out Sacred Heart High School for 114.

Hyderabad: St Mark’s Boys Town's Md Farees Shareef hogged the limelight by picking seven wickets while Abhinav Tej Cheedi of Johnson Grammar School (Nacharam) emerged lone centurion of the day as both the players stood ahead of the lot in the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s inter-school league matches played here on Sunday.

Farees, whose bowling figures read 7.4-0-37-7, helped his side bowl out Sacred Heart High School for 114. However, his efforts went in vain as Sacred’s T.S. Nikhil turned out to be the nemesis for St Mark’s by picking six wickets while giving away 14 runs to bowl out the opponents for a paltry 67. St Mark’s clinched five points while Sacred returned empty hand.

Meanwhile, Sheshi Kumar of St Patrick’s (5/34), Gowtham Model School’s Syed Azizuddin (5/26) and Meghanath Pusa (5/19) of Johnson Grammar did well with the red cherry.

On the day, when bowlers ruled the roost, Abhinay Tej emerged top performer with the willow. The southpaw took 147 balls to score 138 with the help of 24 boundaries to take Johnson Grammar to 354/3 in 50 overs against Gitanjali Devashary. The rest of the work was done by Meghanath who clinched a five-for along with Anirudh Shambula who played supporting role by picking 3 for 34 to help his side wrap-up Gitanjali’s innings for 113.
