'Gabbar' Shikhar Dhawan gets cake facial from Team India mates on 32nd birthday

Players gave opener Shikhar Dhawan a fitting birthday celebration at end of Day 4 vs Sri Lanka in the New Delhi Test.

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team always put in the hard yards when it comes to maintaining peak fitness, but also ensure to enjoy themselves off the field. Birthday and series victory celebrations are nothing new for Virat Kohli’s side.

After putting Sri Lanka on the back foot during the fourth day of the final Test in New Delhi, Team India players gave opener Shikhar Dhawan a fitting birthday celebration. In a video posted by BCCI, the Delhi batsman gets his face smeared with cake by his teammates. It did not end there, as Cheteshwar Pujara went on to add chocolate sauce over his head.

Not only Dhawan, but Team India physiologist Patrick Farhart was also a victim of the cake facial.

The southpaw also had a small celebration with his family.

Previously at the end of the Day four, Dhawan stated that a lot of Indian players from other states are adjusting to the prevailing conditions in the national capital.

"There are a lot of players in our team who are not used to this pollution thing in Delhi as they come from other states. But if you have been assigned a job (to play), you can't let anything come on its way. That's my thinking because not everyone in our team is from Delhi. The situation is same for them also," he said.

But when a scribe reminded him that the Ashwins, Vijays and Rahanes play a lot of cricket in Delhi round the year, Dhawan was more tactful in his response."Look, if you are playing in Delhi during some other time, the pollution won't affect you as much as it is affecting now. I would never say that there is no pollution in Delhi. Of course, there is pollution. During winters, there is a lot of smog, so whatever the situation is, we need to adjust accordingly. When you are playing for the country, you have to do your job," the opener added.
