Telangana girl Vaishnavi Reddy Jakka continued to maintain her stronghold over her opponents to win the Under 16 girls doubles title in the Yonex Rising Star tournament conducted by the Badminton Association of Thailand recently.
Vaishnavi and Pattarasuda Chaiwan displayed good coordination and were unstoppable as they notched a comfortable straight games victory over Saruchana Chaikittiwat and Mesane Loog in the final that lasted 26 minutes. Vaishnavi and Pattarasuda won 21-17, 21-14 to take the title.
The Indo-Thai pair dished out brilliant performances in the run-up to the title clash as well. In the semifinals, they outclassed the duo of Pichamon Patcharapisutsin and Methinee Kuna A. Nuvit in straight games at 21-17, 21-19.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, Vaishnavi and Chaiwan edged past Thippaporn Yimchit and Pimchanok Promsuan 21-17, 21-18.
Meanwhile, Vaishnavi could not continue her winning streak in the U-16 singles category. She was in fact beaten by her doubles partner Chaiwan in the semifinal 16-21, 16-21.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, Vaishnavi had thrashed Pim up sorn Srilathong 21-9, 21-3 in just 16 minutes.
A former trainee at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad, Vaishnavi currently trains at the Banthongyod Badminton School in Bangkok where former women’s singles world No.1 and current No.3 Ratchanok Intanon also brushes up her badminton skills.
