Multiple satellite launch today in Sriharikota

The PSLV-C35 rocket will be launched from first Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 9.12 am on Monday.

Chennai: Isro’s PSLV-C35 rocket will launch for the first time eight satellites, including the weather satellite ScatSat-1 into two different orbits on Monday.

“Instead of having two launches independently for two different orbits, we are putting these satellites in one launch,” Isro officials said.

The PSLV-C35 rocket will be launched from first Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 9.12 am on Monday.

The rocket will carry the 377 kg Scatsat-1 and seven co-passenger satellites into polar sun synchronous orbit. This entire mission will last for more than two hours and 15 minutes.

According to the Isro officials, the countdown activities for the PSLV-C35 mission are progressing normally. The 48-and-a-half hour countdown began on Saturday morning at 8.42 am.

“Earth observation satellites will be launched into different orbits based on their applications. If they launched it together, the users also will be benefited as it will reduce the cost of the launch,” Isro scientists said.

In this mission, weather satellite ScatSat-1 will be put into an orbit 720 km above the earth. Seven smaller satellites for remote sensing and earth observation purposes will be placed into an orbit 670 km above the earth around two hours later. “We have already tested the multiple orbit launch in PSLV vehicle. For GSLV rockets, we are yet to test it,” they added.
