Chennai: The country will step into a major milestone in space science with the launch of Chandrayaan-2, India’s second lunar mission, between July 9 to 16 and it is expected land on Moon on September 6, 2019, said Isro chairman K. Sivan.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Friday Sivan said that entire country is waiting for the launch of the Chandrayaan-2, which will land near South Pole in the Moon. It is an unexplored region. So far no country conducted research near the South Pole. Since this is a new place, the country may stumble on to vital findings in the Chandrayaan-2 mission.
He recalled that India is the first country in the world to find out presence of water in Moon with the mission Chandrayaan-1, about ten years ago. The Isro will launch PSLV C-46 shortly. He said the students from various parts of the country took in a programme to develop scientific in ISRO. The students are enthusiastic and shown keen interest over the programme for “Young Scientist Programme”in tune with the Government's vision “Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan”.
