MPs plan to boycott House

Members of Parliament from the state plan to boycott the budget session of Parliament if the state fails to get adequate financial allocation for taking up several pending projects in the Railway Budget.

Members of Parliament from the state plan to boycott the budget session of Parliament if the state fails to get adequate financial allocation for taking up several pending projects in the Railway Budget.

Local MP Mr G.V. Har-sha Kumar told newsmen here on Tuesday that des-pite their sincere efforts to get allocations, the Rail-way Board was not making any major allocation to help execute projects pending for even decades.

The MP said that though the then Union railway mi-nister, Ms Mamata Bane-rjee, laid the stone for the Konaseema railway project more than a decade ago, there was no progress in its execution so far. He also said that another former Union railway minister Mr Lalu Prasad Yadav directed revision of the Konaseema project more than two years ago but in vain.

The MP was critical of Railway Board authorities for failing to initiate anything concrete to execute pending projects even after former chief minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy gave a written assurance to bear 25 per cent of the costs, while serving Chief Minister Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy assured to allocate Rs.50 crore.

Mr Harsha Kumar said that state railway board meeting was scheduled to be held in Secunderabad on February 15 and added that the Union railway minister was expected to attend the meet. He vowed to raise the issue of pending projects and the need to allocate more funds to East Godavari district during the meet. He also said that they were going to demand an increase in the allocation of emergency quota.

The MP said that land acquisition for taking up the Kakinada-Amalap-uram railway line was over and project cost had escalated to Rs.1,050 crore from the earlier estimates of Rs.695 crore.
