School van mows down 8-yr-old

In a tragic incident, a school van snuffed out the life of an eight-year-old boy in Turkapally of Shamirpet.
P. Rahul, a Class III student of Vijetha High School, was playing with friends in the Government High School playground near his house on Monday evening when he was hit by the speeding van belonging to Pallavi Public School. According to Shamirpet sub-inspector R. Babya Naik, the speeding van was on its way to the parking lot after dropping students home.

“The van driver had left the main road and had taken the pedestrian way through the playground,” Mr Naik said. “The boy couldn’t quickly get out of the van’s way as there was a small ditch ahead. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.” The driver is absconding, said the cop. Quoting witnesses, the police said that Rahul had died by the time his father Narasimhulu, a mason, and mother Lalitha reached the spot. The couple’s other child, Pavithra, 7, studies in Class II.

Originally from Pinki Bollarum in Mulug, Medak, the family had settled down in Shamirpet a few years ago, the police said. Rahul’s body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem. Shamirpet police has started investigation after registering a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of IPC.
