A day after the AIADMK cadres protested against pasting of posters near Vijayakanth’s residence in Saligramam depicting AIAMDK chief Jayalalithaa in a bad light, additional personnel have been deployed by Chennai city police at his residence.

Even since the wordy duel took place between chief minister Jayalalithaa and Opposition leader Vijayakanth in the Assembly, the cadres of both the parties have been involved in poster wars across the state.

On Saturday, DMDK cadres had put up posters in areas Koyambedu, Saligramam and Chinmaya Nagar depicting the chief minister and AIADMK party in bad light. Protesting this, 129th ward AIADMK councillor Senthil Pandian and other cadres of the party had removed them which led to an argument between cadres of both the parties.

Later, DMDK district secretary V. N. Rajan lodged a complaint at the Koyambedu police station alleging that AIADMK men were threatening them. Councillor Senthil Pandian filed a counter complaint against DMDK cadres.

Meanwhile, DMDK founder Vijayakanth on Sunday lambasted the AIADMK government for not taking steps to end the power crisis in the state and sought to know the need to distribute mixies and grinders and fans free of cost without power supply.

“If the situation continues, the AIADMK government will face the same fate as the DMK”, he said at a private function in Aruppukottai. He said though he is not happy with the freebies, he would not block welfare measures reaching the poor.

Mr Vijayakanth said weavers in Aruppukottai area had been badly hit due to power cut and students were not able to study for their exams. He also said the law and order situation in the state was not satisfactory.
