He had to leave Bengaluru in 2000 because of his father’s transfer. But 11 years later, he is back with big dreams for the city. Twenty eight-year-old artist Harish Kumar Sejekan is the man behind the first car-art show that will be hosted in the city today.
Harish is a painter but says his strength lies in drawing and charcoal sketching. At the moment, he is juggling between painting and promoting young artists. He decided to showcase art at luxury car showrooms to reach out to an audience out of the gallery space. “This is my fifth show and the biggest one. In the last two years, I curated shows in Ahmedabad and Pune on a smaller scale,” says Harish. The idea behind the art show is to bring together the beauty of cars and the aesthetics of art. Paintings by young artists will be displayed amidst the luxury cars. Those who love cars and are open to experience art get a chance to feast their eyes.
“People who buy luxury cars, are extremely passionate about them. When the love for art is cultivated it transforms into a passion. I thought this is the right platform to showcase works of young artists and connect with people who are aware about art but don’t know how to make a collection,” says Harish. He is keen on providing a platform to talented young artists who often sell their art at a heavy bargain.
Quiz him about his work and he says horses are his favourite figures to create. “My horses helped me win a competition when I was eight. I was chosen to train at Hussain Sankalan. The master artist was impressed with my horse paintings,” says Harish whose paintings reflect the Hussain style. But for the young man, the city is the priority. “Bengaluru has people who appreciate and invest in art. My dream ahead is to open art residencies and provide an open space for artists and art enthusiasts,” adds Harish.
