The future of clubbing is here. The hottest international trend, video DJing is catching on in the city with ‘videotheque’ nights being held in Bengaluru’s popular nightspots. The concept of an audio-visual treat is the next big thing in the party scene.

DJ Praful, who has recently started videotheque nights at iBar, is positive about the trend. “I started playing videos at City Bar and I’ve also done it at Bangalore Club and at RCB parties. Wherever we’ve tried out the concept, it’s got a great response and I think the city’s definitely open to it,” he says.

“It’s all about playing the latest videos, the same day that they’re released. Pitbull, David Guetta, Usher and Rihanna are some of the most popular artistes that I feature.”

Most places have big screens that can support videotheque nights, but if you’re looking for some serious video mixing, DJ Ivan is the man for the job. Ivan, who started videotheque nights at F Bar, talks about his innovation saying, “I developed the technology a year ago and then it took me about six months to perfect it.”

Ivan uses a special mixer and his turntables to scratch and control videos in real time as they play out on a giant LED screen.

“Tracks like Gimme Everything Tonight, We Found Love and Party Rock Anthem are very popular,” he says, adding, “My forte is electronic house music, which is sophisticated and has a niche audience, but videotheque nights are a great opportunity for me to play more commercial music and reach out to a bigger party crowd. I also do videotheque in other cities like Mumbai, Pune, Chennai etc. It definitely has scope for development.”

The novelty of the concept has brought a freshness into the party scene, agrees event organiser, Richard Mathew. “It’s something new and exciting. I really enjoy the videotheque nights and I think the city’s party animals are loving it too,” he says.

Student and regular clubber Nischith P sums it up saying, “Videotheque adds another dimension to the party and makes it more interactive. I’ve gone to such parties in the US and I think it would be great for us to have it in Bengaluru.”
