The Higher Education Council (KSHEC) is thinking of handing over the conduct of some examinations to colleges.
This would mean the colleges, on their own, can do the evaluation of papers and announcement of results.
The idea emerged in the context of a delay in the announcement of results by the universities, which have their hands full.
The number of examinations they conduct in a year has doubled since the introduction of the choice-based credit and semester system (CBCSS) for degree courses.
As per the new plan, the universities will conduct only alternate-semester examinations, leaving the rest to the colleges. This would halve the universities’ examination burden.
Sources said the matter would come up for consideration before the B. Hridayakumari committee appointed by KSHEC to suggest reforms in CBCSS at the degree level.
Also, this would be discussed with representatives of students unions at a meeting convened by the KSHEC on Feb. 9, as also at the executive committee meeting of the KSHEC on Feb. 29. The inputs received from the meeting with the students unions will be communicated to the committee.
After the introduction of the CSS, the results of the examinations of almost all the universities were being delayed constantly.
For example, the results of the first and third semester examinations of the credit and semester degree courses of Kerala University held in December and November 2011 have not been
published.
