A few events that changed lives and a few that have left an unusual mark in the world of music. Taking you back in time, here are a few incidents and dates we would like to recall, that is sure to leave one too many — Nostalgic.
February 5, 1971: Black Sabbath started recording their third album, Master Of Reality. It is sometimes noted as the first stoner rock album, with Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler downtuning their guitars — bringing the new darker sound. Even about two decades later, it would prove hugely influential on the biggest grunge acts, like Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden and Nirvana.
February 1, 1995: The rhythm guitarist of Manic Street Preachers, Richey James Edwards vanished leaving no clues of his whereabouts. He left behind his packed suitcase and his car was found 16 days later. Edwards has never been found, and in November 2008, he was declared officially dead. Richard was the lyricist behind the most controversial and hard-hitting revolutionary songs!
February 20, 1980: Bon Scott, frontman of AC/DC was pronounced dead on arrival at a London hospital after a heavy night’s drinking. Scott was found in the passenger seat of a friend’s parked car. In 2004, Scott was rated as No. 1 in a list of the ‘100 greatest frontmen of all time’ ahead of Freddie Mercury and Robert Plant.
February 6, 1945: The reggae man — greatest singer, songwriter and guitarist, who gave us No Woman No Cry and Rastaman Vibration — Bob Marley was born today! The Aboriginal people of Australia continue to burn a sacred flame to honour his memory and the Native American Hopi and Havasupai tribe, revere his work even to this day!
