Known for her vibrant hues and Indian elements in her designs, Archana Kochhar will be showcasing her latest collections at the Bangalore Fashion Week tomorrow. Her luscious colour palettes fused with nouveau texturising techniques sets each ensemble apart from every season.
The couture queen who has been showcasing on Indian as well as international runways for the past decade gives us a lowdown on the trends for the coming season — summer. Archana says, “Trends for the summer include light colours like ivory and beige blocked with neons and electric blues. Think of a stark white tunic with a colour burst in hot pink. A colour block in bright hues fused with nudes is going to be in vogue this summer.”
She adds, “It’s summer, so the fabrics are organic, that are pure and can breathe. It could be georgette, but tussar georgette that has organic yarns and lends a slimming effect. The other hot trend for summer is the anti-fit look with kaftans, which are back in vogue.”
Archana who enjoys her work feels every woman must do something besides sitting at home so that her positive energies are always channelised in the right direction. “Women are usually good at juggling home and work. I have a 13-year-old daughter, so I try and avoid going to parties after work to spend time with her. We also take a lot of family vacations and since my husband is into export of men’s wear, we travel extensively. We just got back from Italy last month, where I drew a lot of inspiration from the museums, especially the attitude of the artists that comes forth in their works,” she shares.
Archana who has visited the city over six times in the recent past, says, “Since I design bridal wear, I have a long list of industrialists from Bengaluru who fly to Mumbai for their bridal trousseau. The trend is moving towards destination weddings now so resort wedding wear is in vogue.”
Unusual, ethereal silhouettes signify her bridal wear and prêt lines. Her Bollywood glitterati line up of clients includes Kangana Ranaut, Ayesha Takia, Soha Ali Khan, Zeenat Aman, Mughda Ghodse, Dia Mirza, Mahima Choudhary, Prachi Desai, Sameera Reddy, Minisha Lamba, Jacqueline Fernandez and Amrita Rao.
