Defining her life as an artist in four distinct phases in her recently-released book titled Sarla Chandra — A Journey Of Four Decades, the artist talks about her love for painting, her initial days as an artist, and Hyderabad, where it all began.
Sarla, who has a science background, says, “I was always interested in nature and that it why I had taken up Etymology.” She swears that her love for nature is rooted in her growing up in the serene city of Agra.
Sarla believes that her life is about four distinct phases; the first is Srijan, which refers to the seeds of creativity that inspired her to begin painting. Ankur describes her phase of experimentation, wherein she tried her hand at various methods and styles of painting; Shakha, when she branched out to portray the multitude of Gods and Goddesses in Indian mythology and, finally, Parijaat, where her work transcended from the physical into the spiritual world.
“I painted all the mythological topics after a lot of research,” she says and describes the human mind as a lotus, “Only when ignorance is replaced with knowledge will the mind blossom into the beautiful entity it was always destined to be,” she says.
