Ever since he can remember, Dilip Chhabria has always had two passions; art and cars.

When he designed his Gypsy car by himself, he was suddenly under the microscope all around the country for his amazing creation. Thus, started the journey that is now known by all as DCD, Dilip Chhabria Designs.

With the recent opening of his automotive design car showroom in the city, Dilip has expanded his reach to cater to Hyderabadi clientele. “I know that there is a huge market for such cars here. I’m sure that the Hyderabad chapter will do as well as Delhi or Mumbai.”

Concentrating mainly on comfort, luxury, entertainment and ambience, Dilip has emerged the pioneer of the customised cars industry.

Now, with his latest creation Avanti open for public, we just may have caught a glimpse of India’s first sports car. Avanti is being readied for a production run by the end of 2013.

“Avanti will surely make a huge impact on the Indian car market. We have designed it to fully cope with Indian driving conditions. The car is priced around Rs 25 lakh, almost one-sixth of the price of any other sports car available in the market.”

After reigning over the custom cars segment, Dilip is now talking over the art world as well.

“Custom car-making is also an art, but, you have to wait for a long time to see the final result. I get very impatient and painting usually calms me down as I see the result of my labour in a relatively shorter time. In my initial days, when I used to give people handpainted blueprints of their cars, everyone commented more on the brilliant painting rather than the car design!” he reminisces, adding, “My art influences my cars and my cars influence my art.”

When asked to define his art, he boldly answers, “It is in your face, automotive-inspired, high-tension and aggressive,” says the master designer.
